How CIS of Northwest North Carolina Serves Ashe County Middle School

    Communities In Schools of Northwest North Carolina recently celebrated its 20 year anniversary. The program has grown to expand and provide programs and services that serve in a four-county area. The growth includes expansion into Alexander, Ashe, and Alleghany Counties.

    • Communities In Schools of Northwest North Carolina impacted the lives of students over 8,400 times at Ashe County Middle School through their services last school year. These services included Life and Social Skills, Parent Engagement, College and Career Preparation services, and more.     • Nearly 40 students received one-on-one goal-setting interventions at Ashe County Middle School through the site coordinator of Communities In Schools of Northwest North Carolina. 89 percent of those students who had a goal of improving their academics either exceeded, met, or made progress toward their individual goals.     • A recent survey of the staff at Ashe County Middle School found that 91 percent of the respondents “strongly agreed” or “agreed” that their job would be more difficult without the presence of Communities In Schools in their school. The survey also found that 95.4 percent of the respondents said they “strongly agreed” or “agreed” that they are better able to improve school achievement because of the overall services provided by CISNWNC. Support Communities In Schools “F’all In For Kids” 5K on October 19th in Todd at 8 a.m. by registering for the race or being a race sponsor today.

     

    • Communities In Schools of Northwest North Carolina helps students by finding Success Study Mentors to volunteer at Ashe County Middle School. These mentors spend about 25 minutes a week with students as advisors, motivators, connectors, and confidence-builders for students.     • Communities In Schools of Northwest North Carolina helps the community and churches partner to help Ashe County Middle School students in many ways through their programs.
